A major port city located on the south-Western side of France, Bordeaux is the real capital of the wine growing region.
The city itself has undergone a massive renovation since the year 2000.
Many of its historical and classical buildings have been completely restored and a number of the streets are now completely pedestrianised.
Follow these improvements the city has once again become a Mecca for tourists and an ideal destination for your Hen Party abroad.
Different locations, cities and destinations have particular attractions that appeal to certain types of Hen Parties. Paris for instance for the lash of Romance, Madrid for the shopping, Valencia and Marseilles for their proximity to the sea along with all the other attractions that each of these places has to offer, but for the wine buff or connoisseurs Bordeaux is like dying and finding that heaven was a wine lake.
Bordeaux is famous for its wines and as a consequence many wine related events take place in the city each year.
Encompassing the city itself are a plethora of vineyards and wineries many of which welcome visitors and Hen Party groups, particularly those that want to educate their palates.
It can be an educating experience and also an opportunity to save some serious money on the wedding as the wines are a lot less expensive than in the UK. There are no restrictions on the amount of wine you can bring into Britain as long as it is for personal consumption or that you can establish that is for a wedding.
That all presupposes that you have someone that will drive to France at a later date and do the shopping for you once you have selected your wines.
Apart from the wines there are many other attractions in Bordeaux. One of those is the former battleship the Croiseur Colbert, docked at the Quai des Chartons and offering guided tours ; also the Palais de la Bourse, a magnificent building on the banks of the River Garonne, the imposing Palais Rohan, now used as the local Town Hall.
There are many other attractions including the zoo, public gardens, botanical gardens, theatres, art galleries and the iconic Cathedrale St. Andre.
Like all French city’s, there are abundant café’s and pavement restaurants offering beautiful menus bursting with local fresh produce.
The city has many fine hotels and for those minding their money or on tight budgets, there are lots of cheaper types of accommodation on offer.
The night life is brilliant with plenty of late night bars and night clubs.
All in all, Bordeaux is a classy City and an ideal destination for the classy Hen Party.
There are plenty of scheduled flights from the international airports in the UK and the region is also well served by the low cost airlines.
