Welcome to Torquay with it's seaside charm, where people have been coming to enjoy themselves since Victorian times. Beaches everywhere, surfing, swimming - it's all about chilling ladies, surf dudes. Recently a lot of the town has been modernised, the beautiful seaside promenade, the illuminated bridge and the new International marina.
You're guaranteed to have a brill hen party here, everyone else is here on holidays and there is such a laid back atmosphere. Welcome to the English Riviera.
Torquay lies on the south Devon coast and has always been somewhere people have gone on their holidays - they know how to make you feel at home here. There are plenty of great restaurants to eat in, nice places to drink in and great places to party. The Harbourside area of town is really packed with pubs, clubs and cafes - perfect for hen nights.
Your hen party is going to be great fun, lounging on the beach, there are all sorts of watersports to take part in if you're pushed. There are so many beaches within a 20 mile radius of Torquay, there are 3 European Blue Flags awarded beaches here, more than any other resort in the UK.
Look out for the Torbay Palms or to be more precise Cabbage Trees - Torbay Palms sounds better doesn't it ? These trees were imported from New Zealand back in the 1820's and do give a nice Mediterranean feel to the place. Stroll along the promenade, wander into some or the seafront gardens, listen to some music during the Riviera Live ! season - you might hear anything from jazz to opera.
A good few of Monty Python sketches were filmed here and it was while staying, reportedly, in the Gleneagles Hotel that John Cleese got his inspiration for Fawlty Towers. The owner David Sinclair was quite an eccentric and all of the Monty Python team checked out apart from Cleese who actually invited his wife Connie Booth (who played Polly in the series) down and they took notes on the place.
So what to do during the day, well there's plenty. Take a trip to Kents Caverns, Britains most important Stone Age site and home to humans for over 700,000 years. Loads of famous people have visited the caves including Beatrix Potter, King George V and Agatha Christie who lived in Torquay for many years.
If you want to shop on your henparty there are plenty of options - try the indoor Fleet Walk centre or the converted Victorian theatre called the The Pavilion which hosts specialty shops and a bar and restaurant overlooking the marina.
Go on the Steam Railway, more fun than you'd think, the line snakes along the coast for a while and then along the River Dart. You can combine this with a boat trip also.
So at nightime there is plenty to do - with old traditional pubs mixing with more upmarket bars and there are a few new clubs open also. And for your hen party there are plenty of places to watch some local music, check the papers and tourist office beforehand. Top tip - Muse come from this area. So chill and enjoy yourself in Torquay.
